Edmond Financial Group is pleased to announce the installation of two EV stations at our building at 420 Academy Road in River Heights. These high speed chargers are top-of-the-line Level 2 chargers built by General Electric. Our EV stations will be available to the public between 6 pm and 2 am on weekdays and anytime on the weekend. While the installation of these units is being fully funded by Edmond Financial Group, we hope to offset some of the long terms costs associated with running them by allowing local businesses to advertise on them.

There are currently more than 32 million vehicles in use in Canada, and more than one million of those are in Manitoba. Most of these vehicles rely on gasoline for fuel. Gasoline is highly toxic to both humans and the environment - when burnt, it produces carbon dioxide and other harmful chemicals that pollute our air.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change reports that the transportation sector is the highest producer of greenhouse gas (GHG) in Canada at an estimated 31.4% of total emissions. As awareness about the environmental damage caused by GHG emissions increases and international leaders make strong commitments to lower emissions, many people are turning to greener ways of getting around.

EVs have zero tailpipe emissions, making them an obvious step towards a greener future. To date, there have been more than a million EVs purchased worldwide. The leaders in sales of EVs are the Chevy Volt, the Tesla, and the Nissan Leaf. The top seller in Canada in 2015 was the Tesla. EV vehicle sales are growing by more than 60% per year on average. Tesla's recent success in launching the new Model 3 resulted in worldwide sales of more than 400,000 vehicles valued at approximately CD$17 billion in less than a month.

At Edmond Financial Group, our goal is to promote strategies that will reduce GHG emissions and benefit this province. More EV infrastructure will mean that more people can actually go out and buy EVs. Currently, Manitoba lags behind British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec in terms of the number of EV stations. At Edmond Financial Group, we believe that Manitoba should be a leader in North America with respect to the usage of hydroelectric power and green initiatives in general. As a leader in the community, we recognize that investing in green technology is investing in all our futures.
